Workation June 2018

Blog Workations

Because the first workation was sold out so quickly, I decided to plan another one from June 13 till 18. The group was so amazing! It was mind blowing to see how everyone got along and really tried to help each others’ businesses every minute of every day. This trip was so inspiring and the group became so close. I loved and enjoyed every second of it.

Day one – Explore Marrakech

This photo deserves a bit of explanation. After all the girls arrived, we went to the shop where I always buy my Moroccan internet. This is a verrrrry narrow local shop and all of a sudden it was filled with 8 girls, desperate to get some internet. It was so funny, the seller didn’t know what was happening and he didn’t even had enough for all of us. This was the perfect ice breaker and we had so much fun immediately.

On the first day, most of the girls arrived in the morning and after everyone was settled in the riad, we started the trip with a medina tour. Of course, everyone had a nice refreshing juice at Djemaa el Fna and we walked around a bit. Side note: I was participating at the Ramadan for a couple of days, so I didn’t had anything. Curious how I experienced it? Check this!

After walking around for hours in the Souks, we definitely needed a lunch break and decided to go to Zeitoun Cafe. Only one girl – Noortje – is not in this picture because she arrived later that day.

After lunch, we got back to riad to relax a bit, freshen up and make ourselves ready for dinner.

Day two – Marrakech cooking class

The started with a cooking class. Gemma and I took the girls in the Souks, buying their own ingredients, haggle a bit and learned them everything about local ingredients and shopping.

After collecting all our ingredients, we went to the gorgeous riad to cook! Three Moroccan ladies were waiting for us to arrive. We had a glass of Moroccan mint tea and started cooking.

After the cooking class, we had the inspiring workshop of The Confetti Collective back in the riad. Julia Winkler – our photographer – was joining the workshop also, so that’s the reason we don’t have pictures of that. Afterwards, everyone was a bit tired so we decided to have a quick bite at Zwin Zwin Cafe and tuck into bed early.

Day three – Intensive mastermind session

There are not many pictures of this day as well. After we had our breakfast, we started our mastermind session at 10 AM. Because it was so intensive and all the girls helped each other so well with brainstorming, we finished the sessions at 5 PM. A very long, but valuable day! It was also the end of Ramadan, so a lot of restaurants were closed. Of course, the Djemaa el Fna wasn’t and we enjoyed the food and atmosphere at the square.

Because of the Eid (the fest at the end of the Ramadan), it was so extremely crowded at the square. I’ve been in Marrakech a million times, but never saw Djemaa el Fna this busy. It was so full of atmosphere, we really enjoyed all the vibes and the way the locals dressed up for this special occasion.

Day four – Day off

During the workation, the girls always have one whole day off. They can choose what they want to do themselves. Go for a day trip out of the city, work all day, shop their asses off in the Souks… Enough options! The girls decided to wake up early to see the sun rise in the city.

Day five – Sightseeing Marrakech

This day we started with another mastermind session. It took us from 10 till 1 PM and afterwards we enjoyed a lunch at Zwin Zwin Cafe. Later, it was time to go to all the hotspots in Marrakech and get those SD cards filled with pictures!

I took the girls to Le Jardin Secret, my favorite garden in Marrakech. It’s located in the middle of the Medina and therefore easy to combine with a day of shopping if you’d like. The girls loved this spot and mannnny photos were taken!

After our visit to the garden, we enjoyed the views and food at Atay Cafe. The girls loved this spot and we spend hours chatting!

And then, it was time for the last evening. Since we enjoyed each others company so much, no one wanted to go to bed early. After we finished chatting at Atay, we went to La Salama for some cocktails and Shisha smoking. When they closed, we jumped in the taxi to a local karaoke bar and we came back in the riad very late. Everyone left their cameras “home” so we could really enjoy the company.

Oh boy, it was such an amazing trip! Valuable for everyone’s company. We had girls from Holland, Germany, Cape Town and even Australia. We are back for a while now and we already had diner again, sleepovers, brainstorm sessions and more. We definitely made partners for life.

All these pictures are made by the amazing Julia Winkler, one of the members of the workation. Julia, thanks for these gorgeous pictures, I love every single one of them!
